Capturing Easter Memories

Each and every memory is precious keepsakes for all families. How many times have we looked at old photos of loved ones and remembered the day they were taken, commenting on how much they have grown, or the “do you remember the day this was taken we…”. So important when taking those images to capture the personalities of the subjects. Am always observant of the activities going on in my surroundings, just waiting for those moments that can bring a smile to the face of the viewer, or a memory. Hope everyone had a blessed Easter and keep creating, capture the magic.

Softness in Your Portraits

Whispers
WHISPERS

The lighting and props can make all the difference when trying to achieve softness in your portraits. The feathers against a youthful face accentuate the softness of the image. I chose a forest background with the sun’s rays peeking through the trees to add that surreal look.

Expressions can play a big role also, slight smiles give the over-all image a peaceful, serene feel. Personally I love profile images, to me they do not look staged, also do facing the camera images, its all about the expression.

Making Magic with Your Portraits

Adding a little magic never hurt a portrait. Give each image a little piece of magic and watch it sparkle with new life. Everyday life could use a little magical moment. There are brushes you can get for photoshop  that will add that touch of magic to any image. Most of these are free and so much fun to experiment with. Using Topaz and its creative software is a good choice in a lot of your more digital art images. Topaz 5 and Topaz Clean are a good place to start.

Using Music to Inspire Portraits

Using your favorite songs can definitely inspire a creative spirit in your images. Choose one of your favorite artists, take a song that brings happy memories, sad memories, whatever the case may be that you are wanting to project in your images. The images shown here are some I was inspired by when using one of my favorite female singers Janis Joplin. Taking her songs and projecting a Joplin moment into my portraits. The feeling you get when shooting your photo shoot will come so freely and inspire your mind to create.

If Cats Could Talk They Wouldn’t~Nan Porter

AAA024 (2)wordpressTaking portraits of cats, kittens, or pets in general can be challenging. The face of you pet is magical. Get close, show those expressions that you see in those furry little faces. The eyes tell a story. Make magic with those furry little faces.

The problem with cats is that they get the exact same look on their face whether they see a moth or an axe-murderer. ~Paula Poundstone

EXPRESSIONS IN YOUR PORTRAITS

Expressions are by far my favorite challenge with my subjects, especially children, you never know what they are capable of until you get them in front of the camera. Some are oblivious to your presence, while others are shy, and there are those that will blow you away with some of the images you manage to capture. Naturally the more relaxed the subject the better the facial expressions. Cheesy staged smiles have never appealed to me, I like natural facial expressions. Trying to get these expressions seem to come easier if you know what your subject likes, such as video games, sports, whatever their interests its best to find this out and get them talking, I have found this is when I get my best expressions and they never notice I am clicking the shutter. Have fun, take your time, always be set up and ready before they arrive, no distractions.
